Code of Conduct

We aim to offer a safe and welcoming space for a diverse group of peers to discuss their identities, goals, and challenges. When you sign up for an Active Voice group program, workshop, or training session, you agree that you will help us in that mission by following this code of conduct.

This code applies to online and in-person events, online group coaching sessions, our online community, and any other interactions you have with participants for the duration of those events.

Expectations for all participants

  • Confidentiality. We want you to share what you’re learning, but not the names or private details of other participants without their permission. This is crucial to making everyone feel safe sharing, and we take it seriously!

  • No screenshots or recordings of attendees without their express permission.

  • Respectful, supportive behavior. We value everyone's inclusion and safety, especially those whose identities are underrepresented or marginalized. We do not tolerate disrespectful behavior of any kind. Take time to use the correct pronouns and ask how to pronounce names. Be kind, be helpful, and cheer your fellow participants along.

  • Active participation. You will get the most out of our programs when you join ready to share, reflect, and stretch yourself.

  • No judgements. Remember, everyone has different needs, feelings, and experiences. Focus on helping your peers find their own answers, and only offer advice when explicitly asked. Accept others’ experiences as true to them, even if they don’t match yours.

Non-harassment policy

We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form, including offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sex, sexual orientation, disability, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, age, political affiliation, or religion.

Sexual language and imagery is also not appropriate in our programs.

Unwelcome comments regarding a person’s lifestyle choices and practices (including those related to food, health, parenting, drugs, and employment), deliberate misgendering or use of “dead” or rejected names, and unwelcome sexual attention will not be tolerated.

What happens if you violate this code

  • If you are asked to stop any harassing behavior, you are expected to do so immediately.

  • If you violate this code of conduct, you may be warned, asked to leave the event, or even banned from future events. We will not offer refunds if you are asked to leave for violating this policy.

  • We reserve the right to delete any message shared with other participants if it violates this policy.

What to do if there’s an issue

If something or someone has made you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, we encourage you to reach out to us. You can:

  • Send an Active Voice staff member a direct message during an online event.

  • Email us after the event at hello@activevoicehq.com with information about the incident, and whether you want to be contacted to discuss further.

You can be as involved as you want in the process that follows your report. We can’t follow up an anonymous report with you directly, but we will fully investigate it and take whatever action we deem most useful for preventing a recurrence.

We will respect confidentiality requests. At our discretion, we may publicly name a person about whom we’ve received harassment complaints, or privately warn third parties about them, if we believe that doing so will increase the safety of others. We will not name reporting parties without their explicit consent.

Thank you for helping us keep our events safe, inclusive, and welcoming!
